Neurodiversity Celebration Week
From Awareness to Action: Making Organisational Change Happen
The theme of this years neurodiversity celebration week (16th - 20th March) is From awareness to Action: Making organisational change happen.
What better time to look at the Partnerships for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) project work that is happening in primary schools nationwide. Here in South Glos we’re coming to the end of its second year, and activity has been busy across schools taking part.
The ten schools who are part of this year’s cohort
Abbotswood Primary
Barrs Court Primary
Charborough Road Primary
Christ Church Juniors
St Anne’s Primary
St Stephen’s Infants
Stoke Lodge Primary
Wallscourt Farm Academy
Watermore Primary
Wellesley Primary
Each of the schools have had their bespoke packages of support and training delivered. Schools have been able to access a wide variety of professionals includes Neurodiversity experts, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists, with a whole-school approach to inclusion.
Training has been delivered across a wide range of topics including Neurodiversity and Mental Health, Working and Coproducing Change with Parent carers, Peer Acceptance and School Leadership and Culture.
Professionals have also worked directly with schools to review their school’s environment from a sensory and physical perspective; the language and teaching methods used in classrooms and school’s approaches to behaviour and attendance difficulties. This has given schools expert advice and a fresh pair of eyes looking at school environments and policies enabling them to think about how to build on their existing inclusion. Often recommending small changes that can make big differences to students.
If you have a child at one of these school, do come along to the Parent sessions this month. At these sessions schools have been sharing their plans for embedding ideas from PINS and parents have been feeding back. Dates for each school can be found on our PINS project page
Last years PINS schools have been continuing to work on embedding their work, as well as undertaking further training in understanding sensory needs, social emotional and mental health (SEMH) and emotionally-based school avoidance (EBSA).
Together, we’re building a future where every child is supported and empowered.
Keep up to date with the project here
