Our Community Base
DROP IN SUPPORT
Are you feeling confused, frustrated or isolated on your child’s SEND journey? Do you need someone to talk to about the challenges you are facing?
Then stop by our Community Base in Kingswood on a Tuesday or Thursday between 10am–2pm (term time only) where we would be very happy to welcome you and support you in whatever way we can while you enjoy a tea or coffee.
Our Community Base is a friendly, relaxed space where you can come and connect with other parent carers and get support and information from our Community Support Team who have a wealth of SEND knowledge and experience.
Here at SGPC we are all parent carers, so we truly understand the challenges and joys of raising a child with SEND. Come and see us at our Community Base where we can:
Share information and effective strategies and ideas to help you become more confident in supporting your child’s needs
Signpost you to services that may be beneficial to your family
Provide a listening ear over a cuppa
To promote wellbeing, we sometimes hold activities at our Community Base, including gardening, crafting and mindfulness.
You are welcome to bring your child/children with you – we have toys and games for your children to play with, as well as an outdoor area with various play equipment and a sensory room which features lights, sounds and textures, as well as a hoist option. Please can we remind you that you are responsible for supervising your own children at all times.
“The Community Base is a lifeline, I don't know what I'd do without it and the support I receive.”
How to find us
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am–2pm (term time only)
The Kingswood Centre, New Cheltenham Road, Kingswood BS15 4FS
Parking
There is a car park at The Kingswood Centre, with some spaces available for Blue Badge holders. If the car park is full, you’ll find plenty of on-street parking in the nearby streets.
“It has really helped talking to other people who understand.”
Visitors at the base
To ensure our parent carer community is kept informed, we sometimes host visitors at our Community Base for Q&A and information sessions. These are a great opportunity to find out more about a particular subject, ask questions and learn about other services that could be beneficial to you. Over the years we’ve had visits from:
Send & You (SAY)
The West of England Centre for Inclusive Living (WECIL)
South Glos Council’s Transport Team and the Preparing for Adulthood Team
