Support is Changing

There has been a lot of discussion since the 2026 SEND White Paper was published. At South Glos Parent Carers, we are carefully working through the documents to make sure we share information that accurately reflects what is written.

At this stage, its important to remember that these are proposals, and many of the details are still being consulted on.

This means there will be:

• Opportunities to respond to consultation questions (see link below)
• Professional and legal analysis
• Debate and discussion
• Parent and carer feedback

The most helpful step right now is understanding the proposals clearly and calmly.

As parent carers ourselves we know how difficult it can be finding the time to read such a large amount of information and respond to a long consultation.

We’re here to help. Over the coming weeks we will continue breaking down the proposals so families can better understand the potential changes.

We have taken time to review the information released by the Government and considered how we can share this with you and how we can capture your voices to make sure they are heard as part of the Consultation.

Each week we will focus on one area of the proposal and ask for your views though created 8 bite-sized surveys.

We are now in a 12-week consultation period.
There are two ways that you can have your say:

  1. Through the Government Consultation Survey on SEND reform - Closing Date 11:59pm 18 May 2026,

  2. Through South Glos Parent Carer Forum’s bite size surveys - Closing Date 11:59pm 3 May 2026

‍ ‍If possible, we would always recommend that you complete both feedback options.

Please keep an eye on our social media for the latest article and survey.

SGPC Bitesize Survey

Our next survey will be released on Wednesday 18th March and it will be the first in our series asking questions focusing on a specific area of the White Paper and SEND Reform Consultation.

Focused news and accompanying bite-sized surveys will then follow every week until the 29th April.

All surveys will remain open till midnight on Sunday 3rd May

Our first survey that we are sharing with you today is slightly different.

We want to understand where you are currently in your thoughts and observations based on everything you have read and heard so far. This will help us understand how we can support you over the coming weeks and months.

Each survey only takes a few minutes, but your voice can make a real difference. Ensure that the perspectives of families in our community are heard.

At SGPC, our role remains the same: to represent the lived experience of parent carers in South Gloucestershire and to ensure that your voices are heard locally and nationally.

We know that system change must improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND. We will work alongside the NNPCF and partners to ensure that reforms lead to positive, meaningful and sustainable change for families.

We will continue to update families as more detail becomes available through our social media, website and members email list:
