Local Area Inspection - How to get involved

The services across South Gloucestershire are due to have a Local Area Inspection. We do not know the date for this as the inspections happen with no prior warning. We will be sharing information with you over the coming weeks about what the inspection involves.

INSPECTION SURVEY FOR PARENT CARERS AND CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE LIVING WITH SEND.

The only people able to say how SEND services are working across South Gloucestershire are those who experience it every day! When the inspection starts in South Gloucestershire, OFSTED and the CQC will want to hear your feedback, which they will use to direct their areas of enquiry for the inspection.

Three questionnaires will be sent out on Day 1 of the Inspection by OFSTED and the CQC.  They will be available for:

  1. Children with SEND (over 11 years) – Support can be provided by a parent carer or an adult who works with them to complete the survey.

  2. Parent/carers of children with SEND.

  3. Practitioners working with children with SEND across education, health and social care.

The questionnaires will be available to complete online or in paper form and you may receive these from:

  • The Council,

  • Your child’s school or college

  • Or from another service that supports your child(ren).

There will also be audio recordings and explanatory videos available to help complete the questionnaire.

IMPORTANT: The survey will only be open for the first week of the inspection, so it is vital that you get your questionnaire responses back in time.

IMPORTANT: The questionnaires are anonymous!

We know that in other areas, there has been concern that when completing the online survey, it has been necessary to put a postcode in. This is purely so that Ofsted and the CQC can ensure that the feedback they are receiving is for South Gloucestershire’s services and not another area.

We also know that in other areas, there has been concern that when handing in paper copies of the completed survey this must be delivered to the Council offices. At SGPC, we are working to find a way that we can support families to gather completed surveys and deliver these to the local authority ourselves.

Rest assured, however, you deliver your survey, it will remain anonymous.

We cannot stress how important it is that you complete the questionnaire when it is available. We know that within South Gloucestershire we have a large active community of SEND families. This will be your opportunity to tell those inspecting our local area of any concerns or positive feedback that you may have.

We will keep all information that we share about the Local Area Inspection here so that you can come back to check and re-read it when it’s convenient for you.
