PINS Project update: strengthening inclusion across our schools
The Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) project is well underway this year with lots of positive activity, and we wanted to share what’s happening across our schools…
What’s happening in this year’s PINS schools?
The 10 participating schools are now receiving their bespoke training and whole‑school support packages. Each school is benefiting from a tailored blend of specialist input, including:
Speech and Language Therapy classroom language audits
Occupational Therapy sensory audits
Educational Psychology support, focusing on attendance and adapting behaviour policies to better meet the needs of neurodivergent pupils
Mental health resources from Hamish & Milo
Training on neurodiversity and working in partnership with parents
All 10 schools also have a parent engagement session booked for March, where families will hear directly from their school and SGPC about what’s been delivered so far and what’s coming next.
How last year’s schools are getting on
The 13 schools who took part last year are now focusing on embedding the changes they began. They’re working through their individual delivery plans and continuing to build on the progress they made. We continue to support them as part of the project and they also have access to further training this year on sensory needs, SEMH, and EBSA, with ongoing support from the PINS team.
The PINS project continues to grow because families, schools, and professionals are working together - and that partnership is making a real difference for children.
What parents and schools are saying
“PINS has been a really helpful opportunity for us to pause and evaluate where we are with inclusion. It has also enabled us to check that parents are with us on the SEND journey.”
“It was interesting to have input from a range of services and not to have to go looking for it.”
“My interactions with school have been more positive since the last PINS meeting.”
