Meet, Learn and Connect at Our Community Base

If you haven’t popped into our Community Base at the Kingswood Centre yet, we’d really love to see you. It’s a relaxed, welcoming space designed especially for parent carers - a place to take a breather, chat with people who understand, and pick up information and support from our friendly peer support team. Everyone here has lived experience of SEND, so you’ll always find someone who “gets it.”

We’re open every Tuesday and Thursday (term time only), 10am–12pm – drop-in for a cuppa and a chat with one of our peer supporters. If you’d like something creative to do while you’re here, we often have simple craft activities on the go - no pressure, just join in if it feels right for you.

Hear directly from visiting organisations

To help parent carers stay informed and feel confident navigating support, we regularly welcome organisations into the Community Base. These are a great opportunity to find out first-hand about a particular subject, ask questions and learn about other services that could be beneficial to you.

Over the years we’ve had visits from:

  • Access Sport

  • The West of England Centre for Inclusive Living (WECIL),

  • Mothers for Mothers

  • Bookstart

  • South Glos Council’s Preparing for Adulthood team

  • CAMHS

Coming Up: NDCS visit

On 22 January, a local representative from the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) will be joining us at the Community Base.

This is a brilliant opportunity for families of children with a hearing loss to find out about the wide range of support NDCS offers, including:

✔️ Tailored one-to-one support for families

✔️ Advice for parents of newly identified deaf children

✔️ Help navigating school transitions

✔️ Guidance on hearing aid management and glue ear

✔️ Support accessing BSL lessons

✔️ Emotional and practical support from people with lived experience

Monthly Support from SEND & You (SAY)

Every month, we also welcome an advisor from Send & You (SAY), the local Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS). SAY can help you feel more confident navigating the SEND system by offering:

  • Support to communicate clearly with professionals across education, health, and social care

  • Information about local policy, the Local Offer, Personal Budgets, SEN and disability law, and more

  • A listening ear to discuss any concerns you may have

When you arrive at the Community Base, simply sign up for a 15-minute session with the advisor.

Upcoming SAY Dates:

  • Tuesday 20 January 2026

  • Tuesday 3 February 2026

  • Thursday 5 March 2026

  • Thursday 26 March 2026
