Preparing For Adulthood Survey Report
Earlier this year, we asked parent carers of teenagers and young adults (aged 12–25) to share their experiences by taking part in our Preparing for Adulthood survey. We wanted to better understand the challenges families face as their young people move toward adulthood, especially around key areas like education, transitions, transport, and financial support.
We’re now pleased to share the findings from the 101 responses we received — the majority from parents of younger teenagers (aged 13–16).
Here are some of the key things we heard:
Education and Support
67% highlighted the need for more support with academic learningTransitions and Preparing for Adulthood (PfA)
Only half of parents with young people in Year 12 or above had heard of or been referred to the PfA teamTransport and Travel Training

Many families shared how confusing and overwhelming it can be to navigate benefits, legal planning (like wills), and securing financial support for the future.Independence and Living Arrangements
77% of parent carers reported being worried about their young person’s ability to gain employmentGaps in services
