ADHD Medication Update

Whilst the stock situation appears to be stabilising with many brands and strengths back in stock however, as this is a global stock issue it is very difficult to manage at a local level.

Health have advised:

"Our advice to parents/carers remains the same- discuss with your community pharmacist in the first instance. They will be able to give an up to date picture of stock situation in their area- it may be that another branch has some stock for example. "

If Pharmacists are not able to get any supply of their medication at all, our advice to patients/carers remains the same- "discuss with your GP (if prescribed by the GP), or whoever issues the prescriptions. In some cases, alternative brands/preparations or even an alternative medication altogether, might be prescribed instead.

Guidance for GPs has been provided, in conjunction with CAMHs and Sirona Community Paediatric, on how to do this. This is an individual clinical decision though and this course of action will not be suitable for every patient, hence the advice to discuss this with their prescriber in the first instance, so that they can see what course of action might be best for that patient.
