South Glos Parent Carers recognised by parliament

The new term got off to a very happy start here at SGPC as we received the news that our work has been recognised and congratulated in a parliamentary Early Day Motion. We're delighted that our commitment to SEND families and ensuring parent carers’ voices are heard has been acknowledged this way.

An Early Day Motion is a statement MP's use to highlight important work and we were delighted that our local MP Claire Young wanted to celebrate SGPC after we met with her to discuss some of the key issues faced by our families. We're incredibly proud that it recognises the range of our work, from our drop-in support and online workshops, to our community engagement and contributions, to the input we give to help shape local SEND services.

Why it matters…..

This recognition is so important because our independence really matters. SGPC is separate from the Local Authority, health and other statutory services. This allows us to listen to families and represent what our community is actually telling us, but also challenge services while continuing to work positively with them.

The motion acknowledges the dedication of SGPC staff, volunteers and parent carer reps and the part everyone has played in building a well-informed and supportive community of SEND families. Every experience you share helps us to influence education and social care services and with SEND Reforms on the way, your voice matters more than ever. Keep an eye out for an opportunity coming very soon to lend us your voice in our SEND Reform Survey.

As we celebrate this success together let's take a moment to reflect and say a collective well done!

By signing the Early Day motion, Claire Young MP has recorded this officially within the parliamentary records. If you'd like to check it out in full you can find it on the UK Parliament website https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/65868
