Introducing our Term 2 newsletter
It’s been a busy term here at South Glos Parent Carers, and everything that we’ve packed in to our final newsletter of 2025 really shows what we’re all about – listening to parent carers, working alongside services, and helping bring about positive change for SEND families.
A big focus this term has been our co-production work around Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). Many of you have shared the challenges you’ve faced around this topic, and we’ve made sure your real-life experiences are heard and understood by service providers. We’re really pleased to share the result of this work: a new video series called ‘Can’t, Not Won’t,’ created with South Glos Council’s Educational Psychology Service (EPS).
The videos help explain what EBSA is (and what it isn’t), and offer guidance on working positively with schools and professionals to support your child. Most importantly, they aim to help families feel less alone and more understood. There are 7 videos in the series and the first two - an introduction to the psychology of EBSA and a guide to how schools and families can work together - were launched at our parent carer event in November. You can read about the event and find information about where you can watch the videos inside our Term 2 Newsletter here.
Inside the newsletter you’ll also find:
· Pictures from our ‘Meet Father Christmas’ event at the National Trust’s Tyntesfield, where families from our community enjoyed an accessible and inclusive magical experience.
· 5 ideas for sensory-based Christmas crafts and activities to enjoy with your children this festive season
· All the topics of our online workshops from January – March. These are sure to get booked up quick, so don’t delay in securing your spot. Did you know that if you can’t attend the workshops live, you can still book a ticket to watch the recording afterwards?
· A link to our health services survey that you can take part in to have your say on the healthcare that your child or young person receives. What’s working well and what needs improving? We need your voice to help shape the future of healthcare for SEND children and young people in South Glos!
