News regarding the 2017 Ofsted Inspection
On 28th April 2023, SGPC were asked to attend and provide feedback to the Department for Education, SEND (DfE) and NHS England officials, on 3 remaining areas of significant weakness following the South Gloucestershire Councils 2017 Ofsted Inspection.
During this meeting the local authority presented their data, strategies and the work that is being carried out in the background to address these, which included:
establishing better links across statutory services and school Clusters, improving communication and efficiency to support schools.
strategies to increase workforce capacity by recruiting and training of EHCP Assistant Coordinators, to better improve communication with families, as well as implementing strategies to manage resilience within the EHCP Co-ordination team.
statutory EHCP 20 week completion has improved from 6% (Dec 22) to 47%.
sharing of data across services via a dashboard, and working together in partnership with the local authority, health, families and schools.
Whilst SGPC acknowledge the local authorities efforts to make improvements, particularly with the recruitment and training of the new Assistant EHCP Coordinators, and the implementation of school Clusters. We know there is still work to be done but we are hopeful that once these changes are embedded, families will start to see improvements in the long-term.
In the meantime, SGPC continues to be passionate about influencing policy and practice, and to ensure we represent our parent carer voices.
